Explore NYC With Me
New York City isn’t just the backdrop of The Yariverse, it’s the main character.
The city is a mix of contradictions, a collective pulse. One moment you’re on the subway sitting next to a Patagonia Finance Bro, the next your walking on the street to a student wearing a stunning thrifted trench coat, the next you’re on a rooftop where the conversation shifted from finance to art within seconds. In this section, you’ll find stories, podcasts, and vlogs that treat the city not just as scenery but as a the main character.
Whether you’re here visiting or just a little curious, this is how The Yariverse’s take on city life.

Upside down, but make it Pizza
NYC has no logic but when it comes to pizza it most definitely is. You can eat it anywhere, not that you should. Definitely not in the subway but it’s a choice you can take if you’re into that. Here at Columbia there’s Upside Pizza. You won’t learn the inversion to survive the upside down, or an acute angle from the cut of the slice, but you will have a great slice that a lot of us happen to like. So if you’re just starting into your Columbia Journey, this is a place you’ll most like stop by.
Here’s what to get: A plane slice and spirit

Sometimes you have to teach an engineer to ice skate
Engineers might know about physics but that doesn’t make them great ice skaters. If you new here, my BF’s is an engineer, so when I got the chance to teach him to ice skate, my eyes sparkled. Here’s a quiet place where you can teach an engineer or your bf to ice skate. You might want to go for ice cream after, and get an ice pack.
Here’s what to get: An ice skating rink ticket

Obsession & Solidcore
The first girl I heard talk about Solidcore made it seem like a nightmare, which is weird, because I love pilates. I love it even more when there’s mirrors, dim lighting, and workout clothes. Some people fear the muscle shakes, but I seek it. There’s just something about focusing on something that isn’t work.

On a mission for Carrot Cake
My friend did some serious R&D to find this place. If you don’t know by now, NYC can be very oddly specific. Which is why me and my friend traveled to this carrot cake shop, yeah, a shop meant just for carrot cake. Which we walked for a very long time, the pursuit sweetness with intention.
Here’s what to get: Carrot Cake… Duh.

A sea of pastas
I love anything with flours, cakes, breads, pastas but unlike most of you I have a barley allergy. So it’s a bit of a topic relationship for me. Always, NYC hides cheap eats, most tourists and new incoming students don’t realize this until months in or when they go back home and they see it on TikTok. Here’s my comfort pasta bowls when I’m hungry, have an antihistamine and have my boyfriend on standby. Twirl away and remember sometimes a cheap pasta is money you can use to buy those Hermes shoes. So technically you just saved money, girl math.
Here’s what to get: sushi box and bento

The Science Museum
Being an adult can be exhausting which is why going to the New York’s science museum is an amazing. For the day you basically get to be an unruly kid, go ahead touch the geothermal rock, because you’re supposed too. Relearn to value science, and please remember to not disturb the children.

Boxing but with a Rumble
I don’t know when it happened, but one day I woke up and was like the best thing that could happen right now is if I punched something while heavy music plays but no one gets harmed. The answer was rumble. Healthy outlet.

Mexican Ice Cream Pops
Mexican ice cream pops feel like engineered joy. Bright colors, yummy flavors, memories embedded in sugar and creme. In New York summers, and sometimes winter, they become survival for bad days.
Here’s what to get: Strawberry ice cream pop, Japanese peanuts, & churros.

Ballet core & Pure Bare
When I was six I wanted to be a ballerina, an NYC ballerina prancing in a pretty tutu, dancing in the Nutcracker. My discipline would be disguised by softness, and my toes would never see the day of light. Do not look up dancer feet, you will be traumatized. That dream has transcended and now I have Pure Barre every Tuesday morning before my run. Poise is silent, earned through repetition, bruises, and gracefully movements when nobody is watching especially during long winters and silent studios sunrise practices.
Here’s what to get: A Class Pass Membership and your safest pink ballet outfit

The MET rooftop
I attended the last day The Met rooftop closed for renovations. The views, were divine, but the museum, darling that was beauty all its own. A space in the city overlooking the Central Park.
Here’s what to get: White wine for date night in with museum… the rooftop is close babe, if not I would have told you to get the strawberry one. I got super drunk that night.

The Japanese market
Japanese markets in New York are intentional. Every item placed with respect, function, and heavy restraint. Convenience is craft itself. Before you know it, you’ll get lost in the details of the packaging, texture, and even the music. An errand turned altruistic:
After 6pm (only if you need to save a bit of money) here’s what to get and when:

Stranger Things: Dark Shadow
Hehehe, excuse me while I take my time to not be silly… okie… here we go.
New York has its dark shadows, like seriously, there’s basements, tunnels, abandoned allies, places you should never venture into. If Vecna ever came here, we would simply look the other way, because mystery lives below the surface.
Here’s what to get: The pomegranate slushy, it’s seriously so good.
