Welcome to Copenhagen, the first thing you notice is how calm everything feels except the cyclists, they have their own fast and furious language, I almost got run over by a bike here but that’s life I guess. The second is how the canals actually sparkle the way Ariel’s dress would at sunset and how the buildings look like they have their skincare routine.

Copenhagen curates history through design and sustainability and in summer the sun doesn’t set until like 11pm, which means you’ll get more photo time. In girl math this means you can pack more outfits.

Start with Nyhavn, a bit touristy, I know, but sometimes touristy things are famous because they’re iconic. There you’ll colorful buildings, boats, and waterfront cafés make it the kind of place where every photo looks like you accidentally wandered into a Scandinavian lifestyle campaign.

Amalienborg Palace gives royal drama without needing a Netflix subplot and Rosenborg Castle feels like a fairytale with better real estate. While the Round Tower gives you old world academia, city views, and the opportunity to pretend you’re a mysterious traveler. Then there’s Kastellet, the star shaped fortress that feels peaceful now but still carries the weight of military history. Nearby, the Little Mermaid sits by the water, she’s a bit tiny, so focus in close to the shoreline.

Day 1:

Morning / Early Afternoon: Arrive in Copenhagen at your Hotel, ask for a fan, you’re going to it need at night if there’s no AC in your hotel. Make sure to bring a refillable bottle, there’ll be free water fountains throughout the city, Copenhagen also has drinkable tap water.

Afternoon: Start with a canal tour for an easy first look at the city. This is one of the best ways to see Copenhagen’s colorful architecture, waterfront life, and historic harbor areas without crowds. If you listen carefully, you’ll catch some of the Nordic sarcasm by the tour guides and some people taking pictures of you from the streets, as well as people waving towards you.

Evening: The sun doesn’t set until after 10pm, so dinner are late, have dinner near the waterfront at Aamanns Replik in the Royal Danish Playhouse, you’ll get amazing views. After dinner, take a short walk near the harbor for golden hour or night photos, just across the bridge there’s a popular beer garden.

Take some super cute pictures at:

  • Nyhavn: colorful houses, boats, classic Copenhagen.
  • Royal Danish Playhouse: modern architecture by the water.
  • Inderhavnsbroen Bridge: great for canal and golden hour pictures.
  • Christianshavn canals: quieter, charming water views but still worth the picture.

Morning: Focus on the royal, architectural, and cultural landmarks like:

  • Amalienborg Palace: home of the Danish royal family.
  • Frederik’s Church / Marble Church: beautiful dome and exterior photos.
  • Rosenborg Castle: Renaissance castle with gardens.
  • Christiansborg Palace: political and royal history.
  • The Round Tower: historic observatory with city views

Afternoon: Gardens & Old Streets: Choose a café near the city center or Nyhavn. Spend the afternoon walking through King’s Garden, then explore the older streets near Strøget and the Latin Quarter.

Evening: Dinner & Tivoli Gardens: By the end the day go to Tivoli Gardens for colorful whimsical night pictures..

Take some super cute pictures at:

  • King’s Garden: soft greenery with Rosenborg Castle in the background.
  • Magstræde: one of Copenhagen’s prettiest old streets.
  • The Round Tower rooftop: cityscape photos.
  • Strøget side streets: lifestyle and street style content.

Morning: The Little Mermaid & Kastellet: Start with the famous Little Mermaid statue, then walk around Kastellet, a historic star shaped fortress. Think if Winx had a historic star shaped castle it would look like this.

Historical Landmarks:

  • The Little Mermaid: iconic Copenhagen statue
  • Kastellet Fortress: historic military site with scenic paths
  • Gefion Fountain: dramatic fountain and strong photo backdrop
  • St. Alban’s Church: beautiful Gothic Revival architecture
