One minute you’re ordering cafecito, and the next you’re standing between Art Deco hotels, palm trees, murals, and someone wearing linen like they personally own the concept of summer. The next you’re eating some of the most amazing tacos that happen to stay open way past midnight.
Miami isn’t subtle. Miami’s the place where you put on bronzer before breakfast, and you play soccer at 3am in the morning.
Ocean Drive gives neon, pastel hotels, beach energy, and the feeling that every early 2000s music video came here to find itself. The Art Deco Historic District is colorful, cinematic, and dramatic without trying too hard. Then there’s the Miami Design District, where luxury, architecture, restaurants, galleries, and public art all gather together perfectly. This is where Miami becomes fashion forward with designer storefronts, public art, sleek buildings, and high end restaurants. It’s one of the city’s strongest itinerary stops. Wynwood is the opposite but just as necessary. It’s bold, colorful, and art forward, with murals that make the neighborhood feel like the walls are trying to outdress you. Wynwood Walls is the obvious anchor, but the surrounding streets are part of the fun.
Little Havana is where Miami gets warmer and more rooted. Calle Ocho gives Cuban coffee, dominoes (play a game it won’t disappoint), music, cigars, murals, and cultural history. It reminds you that Miami isn’t just beaches and nightlife. Then there’s Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, which is one of the most beautiful stops in Miami. A tropical garden and waterfront European drama. Key Biscayne is calm, lighthouse views, and a slower pace without leaving the Miami orbit. The Keys give a full change of scenery: turquoise water, seafood, snorkeling, mangroves, roadside key lime pie, and sometimes a salt crocodile or two, so don’t take a swim in the mangroves.
Day 1
Morning: Start with South Beach and the Art Deco Historic District. Use it as the perfect Miami opening scene to your travel vlog.
Landmarks:
- South Beach: Miami’s most iconic beach area
- Ocean Drive: pastel hotels, neon signs, and nightlife energy
- Art Deco Historic District: colorful historic architecture
- Lummus Park: palm trees, beach path, and classic Miami views
- Collins Avenue: hotels, shopping, and Miami Beach energy
Afternoon: Go to the Miami Design District. This is one of the best areas for architecture, galleries, and public art.
Things to do:
- Walk the Design District public art installations
- Visit the Institute of Contemporary Art.
Restaurant ideas:
- Mandolin Aegean Bistro, Michael’s Genuine
- L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami, Le Jardinier
- Cote Miami, SUGARFISH Miami
Evening: For an iconic Miami dinner, book Gianni’s at The Villa Casa Casuarina, the former Versace mansion. It gives historic mansion, courtyard dining, fashion history, poolside drama, and “I packed this outfit but I totally didn’t spend 6 months on the vision”. If you want something sleek, simple, and sushi focused, book SUGARFISH.
Dinner ideas:
- Gianni’s at The Villa Casa Casuarina, SUGARFISH Miami
- Joe’s Stone Crab, Cecconi’s Miami Beach
- Carbone Miami, Mandolin Aegean Bistro, Cote Miami
Take some cute pictures at:
- South Beach lifeguard towers, Lummus Park palm trees
- Art Deco hotel exteriors, Collins Avenue
- The Villa Casa Casuarina exterior, Ocean Drive at night
- Gianni’s courtyard or pool area, Palm Court in the Design District
- Mandolin’s blue-and-white exterior, Golden hour near Miami Beach
Day 2
Morning: Go early to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, it can get packed quickly. If it looks like you’re entering private property, congratulations you’re in the right spot. The house, gardens, waterfront views, staircases, stonework, and tropical landscaping make it one of the prettiest places in Miami, if you look around you might even spot some quinceañera or wedding photoshoots happening. If you’re a Marvel fan this also happens to be a film location for one of the Iron Man films (so if you’re a bit nerdy like my BF this is a must).
Historical and Scenic Landmarks & Super Cute Picture Spots:
- Vizcaya Main House, Vizcaya formal gardens
- Biscayne Bay waterfront, Stone barge view, Garden paths and fountains
Afternoon: Spend the afternoon in Coconut Grove. Since Vizcaya is near Coconut Grove, this keeps the itinerary smooth instead of having you zigzag around the city.
Coconut Grove Stops:
- Cocowalk, Peacock Park, The Barnacle Historic State Park, Coconut Grove marina
Lunch or coffee ideas:
- Ariete, Greenstreet Cafe, Panther Coffee, Sadelle’s Coconut Grove
Evening: Go to Brickell or Downtown for skyline, bay, and rooftop energy. Brickell gives polished city nightlife, restaurants, rooftop bars, and finance-bro-on-vacay energy, which isn’t always peaceful but is absolutely Miami.
Dinner ideas:
- Zuma, Sexy Fish Miami, Komodo, La Mar by Gastón Acurio, NIU Kitchen
Take some cute pictures at:
- Coconut Grove marina, Cocowalk, Brickell skyline
- Miami River, Biscayne Bay at sunset, Downtown waterfront
Day 3
Morning: Leave Miami early and drive toward Key Largo or Islamorada. For a day trip, Key Largo and Islamorada make the most sense because they give you the Keys experience without turning the day into a full endurance sport. Key West is iconic, but from Miami it’s a long drive, so save it for an overnight trip unless you are deeply committed to road trip chaos.
Best Day Trip Route:
- Miami to Key Largo
- Key Largo to Islamorada
Key Largo Stops:
- John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Sea Turtle Hospital
- Snorkeling or glass bottom boat tour
- Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park
- Key Largo waterfront restaurants
Islamorada Stops:
- Robbie’s of Islamorada
- Theater of the Sea
- Anne’s Beach
- Morada Bay area
- Local seafood lunch
Food ideas:
- Key Largo Fisheries Backyard Cafe, Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen
- Lazy Days Restaurant, Morada Bay, Lorelei Restaurant & Cabana Bar
What to eat:
- Fresh fish, Key lime pie
- Mahi mahi, Stone crab
Evening: Drive back toward Miami around sunset or stay for dinner in Islamorada if you don’t mind getting back late. This is the day for ocean views, seafood, breezy photos.
Take some cute pictures at:
- Overseas Highway views, John Pennekamp water views
- Robbie’s dock, Islamorada beach areas
- Anne’s Beach boardwalk, Morada Bay sunset
